UK LEADERS NEED NEW MINDSET FOR THE LONG TERM

Business leaders in the UK do not feel prepared to lead through future challenges like artificial intelligence and political volatility, according to research by management consultancy, Lane4. More than three-quarters (79%) of leaders agree that senior leaders in their organisation will need to adopt a different mindset for their business to succeed in the future. However, 20% of leaders are not sure they have the skills necessary for future success and just a third (32%) feel they have what it takes, says the research. CIPD: CIVIL SERVICE STRENGTHS FOCUS IS ‘A BIG SHIFT’

Focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses is more likely to boost performance, according to research from the CIPD. EMCC CONFERENCE: PARADOX MINDSET

How often do we treat paradoxes as problems to be solved in our coaching? Many coaching dilemmas have no ‘right’ solution – it’s more a case of shifting mindsets from ‘or thinking’ (absolve – “it’s not my problem” and solve – “someone has to choose”) to ‘and thinking’ (resolve – “there’s an opportunity here” and dissolve – “let’s think about this differently”), said Dr Jenny Denyer, in her workshop at the EMCC conference.
