WILLPOWER STUDY QUESTIONS EGO DEPLETION EFFECT

Research has called into question the theory that willpower is a limited resource. Liz Hall A large-scale replication of earlier research failed to find what’s called an ‘ego depletion effect’, while a meta-analysis argued impact is minimal. Ego depletion is the term for the idea that willpower is like a fuel that burns low through repeated effort, and that once it does so, we lose focus and succumb to fulfilling our immediate desires.
