Most employees believe their employer should be doing more to combat climate change, and are demanding organisations change to be more aligned to their values, suggests research.
Environmental and sustainability professional, Dr Leyla Acaroglu, and next generation employee experience platform and intranet provider, Unily, teamed up to produce the Future of Workplace Sustainability Report, which explores how sustainability, climate change and Covid-19 are shaping the future of the workplace.
Censuswide surveyed 2,000 UK employees in August. Some 65% of these respondents said they were more likely to work for a firm with strong environmental values. Sixty-four per cent said they would turn down a job from a company that had a bad environmental reputation.
Some 83% believed their employer was either not doing enough or could be doing more to combat climate change. Just 11% said they felt their company was doing enough. Eighty per cent said their employer’s environmental values were either only partially aligned or not at all aligned with their own.
There is high demand from employees to learn more about their companies’ environmental values and goals, finds the report. More than half (58%) of respondents said they wanted more information on these. There is also demand to learn more green skills – 63% of respondents would also like to do so to become more valuable in the workplace.
