Locala Community Partnerships, Cumbria Constabulary and NatWest Markets walked away with gold, silver and bronze best coaching and mentoring awards, respectively, in Training Journal’s (TJ) annual awards.
Locala Community Partnerships won gold for its colleague-led internal coaching service that supports its colleagues to develop, learn and find innovative ways to overcome challenging situations, which won a national training award.
Cumbria Constabulary picked up silver for its strengths-based coaching and mentoring scheme, and NatWest Markets bronze for its coaching initiative (see NatWest case study).
Locala, a not-for-profit social enterprise providing community healthcare across Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford, has 21 internal coaches in its service, since 2018 and has already supported more than 75 colleagues.
Diane McKerracher, chair of Locala’s Board, said: “We are in an ever-changing world of health and social care so it’s important that we find new ways of coping with those changes. Having colleagues who can offer peer support is a great way of doing that and it’s pleasing to see that work being recognised nationally.”
TJ Awards judges commended the service for its obvious impact on staff and also on the service for patients, saying “their passion was obvious and the programme feels fully embedded and sustainable”.
Nearly half of the TJ Awards’ 13 winners came from the hard-pressed public sector and not-for-profits. The ceremony took place once again in the Pavilion at the Tower of London, in December 2019.
In other categories, gold winners were Mindful Education (Best Use of Technology in Learning), Fairhealth (Best Diversity & Inclusion Programme), Ibstock Brick (Best Apprenticeship Programme), PwC Ireland (Best Talent Development Programme), Bespoke Training & Development (Best Training Partnership), Locala Community Partnerships CIC (Best Coaching/Mentoring Programme), National Autistic Society (Best Public Service/ Not-for-Profit Programme), Sainsbury’s & t-three (Best Leadership Development Programme), Spirax-Sarco Engineering and Interactive Workshops (Best Private/Commercial Programme), Elior (Best Customer Experience Programme), AIG (L&D Team of the Year) and Robert Stewart, Scottish Social Services Council (L&D Professional of the Year).
