INTERNATIONAL COACHING WEEK 2016, 16-22 MAY, GLOBAL

Front-line and other workers involved in the global refugee crisis are to be offered pro bono coaching to help them be more resilient.

The CoachActivism Project, launched during International Coaching Week, will see coaching offered to front-line refugee workers, settlement and re-settlement workers, translators, first-responders, volunteers and private sponsors for an initial six-month period from this month (July).

The coaching will seek to increase the resilience and self-care of these individuals, as well as help them organise, coordinate and facilitate their work. Individuals, referred through collaborating agencies, will have the chance to work on a
one-to-one basis with a coach or as part of a group.

The project is led by Katerina Kanelidou and Lina Ioannou in Athens, Greece, and Lily Seto and Claire Rettie on Vancouver Island, Canada.

The team designed the work with input from an international steering committee and community-based organisations, and with support from recognised coaching trainers and certified coaches. The project has been endorsed by the ICF Vancouver Island Chapter and International Coach Academy.

Professional coaches interested in taking part were invited to express interest by 31 May.

Participating coaches were required to have at least 100 hours’ coaching experience, among other requirements. Those selected were to be offered training, on a pro bono basis, by internationally recognised professionals in areas including ethics, boundaries management, cross-cultural management, transactional analysis, coaching versus counselling and trauma.
